We are looking for a Drama Assistant
Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic & motivated Assistant Facilitator to support our theatre workshops & activities for young people aged 8-20 years old. The Assistant Facilitator will work closely with the Lead Facilitator to plan, deliver, & support theatre sessions, ensuring a fun, inclusive, & engaging environment for all participants. While prior experience is valued, a strong passion for theatre & a willingness to learn & grow in the role are just as important. So please apply if that is you & show this in your application.
About the Organisation
Haven Young Creatives - A Different Light is a charity that works with children, young people, & adults. We run regular drama sessions, design work experience programmes & produce community outdoor arts events. We want people in Newhaven & beyond to be alive to possibility. We do this in three distinct ways.

Hours & Commitment
3:30pm - 8pm Tuesdays during term time, with the remaining 2.5 hours per week term time to be arranged with the lead facilitator.

The Assistant Facilitator will work closely with the Lead Facilitator to plan, deliver, & support theatre sessions, ensuring a fun, inclusive, & engaging environment for all participants.
Sessions take place every Tuesday during term time at The Hillcrest Centre, Newhaven: 4pm - 5.30pm for 8-12 years old & 5.30pm - 7:30pm for 13-19 years old.
Pay
£15/hr direct delivery (Tuesdays for 4.5 hours) & £13/hr planning (TBC for 2.5 hours) - weekly during term times (30 weeks per year)
This is a freelance role & the candidate will need to be registered as self employed.
Job Requirements
-
Experience working with young people in a creative/educational setting, ideally in theatre or performing arts.

Strong communication skills & the ability to engage & inspire young participants.

A passion for theatre, youth development, & the creative arts.
-
Patience, empathy, & the ability to support participants with different needs & abilities.
-
Experience/understanding of working with young people with special educational needs (SEN) & the ability to adapt activities to meet their needs
-
Knowledge of drama techniques & theatre practices preferred.

Basic knowledge of safeguarding practices, SEN & mental health (training will be provided).
-
Ability to remain calm & composed in a busy, creative environment.
Qualifications
-
Experience in drama facilitation/youth work/theatre education is highly desirable.

A background in performing arts (acting, directing, or production) is an advantage.
-
First Aid training & a valid DBS check, or willingness to obtain these is essential.
Job Responsibilities
-
Assist Lead Facilitator in planning & delivering engaging theatre workshops & activities.
-
Support young participants in developing their performance skills, including acting, movement, improvisation, & voice work.

Help manage group dynamics, ensuring all participants feel included, supported, & encouraged.

Offer additional support to participants with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring full participation & inclusion
-
Ensure the safety & wellbeing of participants, adhering to the organisation's safeguarding policies.

Provide 1-2-1 assistance to participants who may need extra support to engage fully

Assist in the preparation & production of performances, including rehearsals & backstage support.

Maintain a positive & energetic atmosphere that fosters creativity, respect, & teamwork.

Attend planning & evaluation meetings with the lead facilitator weekly.

Undertake training in safeguarding, mental health, SEN & in-house training.
